Nissan Shows 2012 GT-R Facelift in Paris but won't Release Details Until October 18th

Tucked away in a glassed corner of Nissan's Paris Motor Show booth was the 2012 GT-R facelift. So, did the updated GT-R make its world premiere in Paris or not? Yes and no. See, while the car made its first public appearance in Paris, oddly enough, Nissan said it wouldn't release any information until mid October.

Here's the official statement from the Japanese automaker: "The GT-R engineering team are currently at the Nordschliefe, the legendary circuit in Germany, where they are in the process of signing-off the final updates on the forthcoming enhanced GT-R. Full details of the enhanced GT-R will be announced on 18th October 2010,"

From what we can see, the 2012 model year version of the Godzilla boasts a new front bumper with LED running lights, a revised rear diffuser and new alloy wheels.

According to documents leaked back in August, the changes are said to help drop the GT-R's drag coefficient from 0.272 to 0.268 while also improving rear downforce by 10%. The car is also expected to benefit from chassis and engine modifications.

We'll update this story as soon as Nissan comes out with all the juicy details.

2011 Nissan LEAF Exclusively On Electric Power

Nissan LEAF is a tremendous accomplishment - one in which all Nissan employees can take great pride," said Nissan President and CEO Carlos Ghosn. "We have been working tirelessly to make this day a reality - the unveiling of a real-world car that has zero - not simply reduced - emissions. It's the first step in what is sure to be an exciting journey - for people all over the world, for Nissan and for the industry."

Key characteristics of the Nissan LEAF include:
Zero-emission power train and platform
  • Affordable pricing
  • Distinctive design
  • Real-world range autonomy - 160km (100 miles)
The "LEAF" name is a significant statement about the car itself. Just as leaves purify the air in nature, so Nissan LEAF purifies mobility by taking emissions out of the driving experience. However, the company expects the car to be competitively priced in the range of a well-equipped C-segment vehicle. Additionally, Nissan LEAF is expected to qualify for an array of significant local, regional and national tax breaks and incentives in markets around the world. As an added benefit, because the vehicle has less mechanical complexity than a traditional gasoline-powered car, Nissan LEAF is designed to be friendly to the wallet as well as to the environment.

2011 Nissan Leaf is a pure electric car first offered for sale to the U.S. mass market. This 5-passenger, 4-door hatchback runs exclusively on electric power. The leaves come in two trim levels, base SV and uplevel SL. All use a 107-horsepower electric motor and lithium-ion battery. Nissan claims a maximum driving range of 100 miles. Leaves charging port can accommodate a 110-volt household outlet or 220-volt. It takes about 20 hours to charge from 110-volt outlet. Using a special station at home 220-volt charging, fully charged takes about 8 hours. SL models are available with port "quick charge" that can charge to 80 percent capacity in 30 minutes. The leaves come only with single-speed transmission that functions like automatic. Available safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, front-side airbags, and curtain side airbags. A navigation system is standard on all. SL model has a rearview camera and a small roof mounted solar panels, which provide cost drip into 12-volt batteries that power accessory items, such as the climate system.

The engineers and designers behind Nissan LEAF worked to create a competitively priced real-world car that would enable Nissan to lead mobility into the zero-emission era. To ensure comfort, spaciousness and cargo capacity, Nissan LEAF employs a completely new chassis and body layout.

"Our car had to be the world's first, medium-size, practical EV that motorists could afford and would want to use every day. And that's what we've created. The styling will identify not only Nissan LEAF but also the owner as a participant in the new era of zero-emission mobility," said Masato INOUE, Product Chief Designer.

Nissan LEAF's frontal styling is characterized by a sharp, upright V-shaped design featuring long, up-slanting light-emitting diode (LED) headlights that employ a blue internal reflective design that announces, "This car is special." But the headlights do more than make a statement. They are also designed to cleverly split and redirect airflow away from the door mirrors, thus reducing wind noise and drag. And, the headlights provide yet one more benefit in that they consume just 10 percent of the electricity of conventional lamps, which helps Nissan LEAF to achieve its world-class range autonomy.

Through bright trim colors inside, Nissan LEAF creates a pleasing and stylish cabin environment. An environmentally friendly "blue earth" color theme originates from the Aqua Globe body color of Nissan LEAF's introductory model. This theme is carried into the interior through blue dashboard highlights and instrument illumination.

Zero-emission mobility programs under the banner of the Renault-Nissan Alliance include partnerships with countries such as the UK and Portugal, local governments in the Japan and the USA, and other sectors, for a total of nearly 30 partnerships worldwide.

In these partnerships major efforts focus on three areas:

* Development of a comprehensive charging infrastructure through public and private investment,
* Incentives and subsidies from local, regional, and national governments, and
* Public education on the individual and societal benefits of zero-emissions mobility.

NISSAN NEW X-TRAIL TUNNING CAR MODIFICATION

Nissan X TRAIL MPV Called TRAIL years ago, at school, there was a adolescent guy called Bradley. Now Bradley was about 6-feet tall, was adequately lanky, and was as white as archetype paper. Yet somehow he managed to be blacker than Fiddy Cent. You see, his cap was consistently backwards, his agreeable repertoire comprised every rap song anytime written, and his jeans were baggier than a abrasion cutting a tuxedo.

Engine choices are also changed from two to one as only a 2-litre petrol engine is available. This is the MR20DE 4-cylinder engine, different from the one in the first X-Trail which had a QR-series engine. The all-aluminium MR engine series was jointly developed by Nissan and Renault and is used in the French carmaker’s models too. The 2-litre version for the new X-Trail produces 139 bhp/198 Nm and has enhanced efficiency with variable valve timing. It’s actually the same RON95-compatible engine as found in the Sylphy (but tweaked for enhanced torque) and like the sedan, it also uses Nissan’s XTRONIC CVT with 6 speeds.

The SUV’s engine and transmission also ensure superior fuel economy. Tests have shown that the X-Trail’s average fuel consumption is a healthy 14km per litre (Japan 10-15 mode) - and this is comparable to that of many sedans on the road today.

The smaller accelerate the X-Trail in approximately 10 seconds of 0 to 100 km/h, the larger need for it one second less. In the maximum speed the Diesels with scarcely 190 km/h and approximately 200 km/h lie even a little more highly than the Benziner. But they offer then also approximately 40 per cent more torques, meanwhile jeep drivers did not only learn which to estimate.

If you are asking about the kind of power that this one has, we all would have to wait for Nissan has yet to inform the public about its power source and just how powerful it can be. Plus, most of the parts under the hood have to be revealed. But we all sure do know that this vehicle is not going to come using an AEM Acura intake.

New 2011 The Nissan Murano is powered by a 265 horsepower

The Nissan Murano is powered by a 265 horsepower, 3.5 liter, V-6 engine matched with a Continuously Variable Transmission. The CVT automatic works well and the engine provides all the power needed for a mid-sized vehicle. Towing capacity is listed at 3,500 pounds, but that is enough for small camping trailers and boats.

First released in 2003, the Murano SUV is today competitively priced between $28,050 - $38,180. With many luxurious standard features, it's no wonder this crossover has often been described as "revolutionary". Sporty and chic, the Murano stands in a class of its own with the look of an off-road vehicle, designed for an urban lifestyle.

Leaf can go 100 miles between charges, 95% of U.S. commuters drive less than that each day

From CNN / Fortune, the diary of an electric car commuter: When an argon-blue Nissan Leaf, the first production all-electric, zero-emission family car to hit the U.S., whispered into my garage last month, I knew instantaneously that it was a game changer. New relationships come with hopes, fears, and surprises, and ours -- the Leaf's and my union -- went quickly from blind date to a marriage of convenience.

The Leaf is nothing short of a bellwether of the automotive revolution that is headed to a driveway near you. Tighter fuel-efficiency standards, emerging markets' requirements, fluctuating gas prices, and a race in powertrain innovations are all in play. Audi, GM (GM), VW, and others are jockeying for dominance. Audi wants to rule the luxury electric-vehicle (EV) market; its first entrant, a plug-in hybrid, will come to market in 2014. GM's solution, the Volt, has just gone on sale and offers a small onboard gas-powered generator to feed the electric motor and extend its range. VW will roll out its EV in 2013.

So Nissan wins the prize for being first to market with a production pure electric. The company's visionary CEO, Carlos Ghosn, saw the opportunity to dominate the EV category and pushed hard to get the appealingly bug-eyed five-door hatchback built. "With the arrival of the Leaf, it is in our hands, and that of the public, to steer our industry toward its future of sustainable mobility," Ghosn blogged recently. "We believe this innovative car will silence the skeptics and bring a valuable solution to life."

Nissan granted Fortune the first "long term" (eight-day) loan of a Leaf. The Leaf can go about 100 miles between charges, and Nissan maintains that 95% of U.S. commuters drive less than that each day. It was my mission to determine whether that was sufficient to withstand my local reality, L.A.'s worst traffic-choked arteries.

First, a pleasant electrician named Marty arrived to install the Leaf's 240-volt charging dock in my garage. ("It's as simple as putting in power for a hot tub," he explained.) The moon-faced, wall-mounted unit can replenish the Leaf's lithium ion batteries in eight hours.

Then my Leaf arrived with a flourish -- bright, shiny, and eager to please, as were its two Nissan spokesmen. We conducted a detailed walk-around, which uncovered an important fact: There was nothing complicated, obtuse, or unfriendly about the car. The controls on the center console were intuitive. I found the range-map and power-usage screens easy to navigate. A button next to the hood release popped open the little door on the Leaf's nose, revealing the port where the charger's J-plug (shaped like a gas nozzle but smaller) clicks into place. The optional solar panel on the rear wing collects power only for a secondary electrical system that controls the power windows, door locks, and radio. A black sack in the rear hatch area contained the backup charging cord -- a simple three-prong affair with which you can top off the Leaf in a mere 20 hours or less.

GM sold 250 to 350 Volts in December, Nissan still ramping up

From the The Californian / Associated Press: This was the year General Motors Co. and Nissan made good on their promise to bring mass-produced electric cars to the market. But don't count on seeing one in traffic soon. Sales so far have been microscopic and they're likely to stay that way for some time because of limited supplies.

GM sold between 250 and 350 Chevy Volts this month and Nissan's sales totaled less than 10 Leaf sedans in the past two weeks. Production for both is slowly ramping up.

It will be well into 2012 before both the Volt and Leaf are available nationwide. And if you're interested in buying one, you'll need to get behind the 50,000 people already on waiting lists.

It's still unclear just how large the market for electric cars will be once those early adopters are supplied. The base sticker price is $40,280 for the Volt and $32,780 for the Leaf, much higher than most similar-sized, gas-powered cars. If those prices rise, it could make them even more of a niche product than predicted. Buyers also are worried that advertised lease deals may not last, and a federal tax rebate of $7,500 could disappear if Congress decides battery-powered cars are no longer a priority.

The first electric car sales were marked with fanfare. The envy of green-car geeks across the country, new owners were treated like rock stars at dealerships. They were greeted by high-level GM and Nissan executives, followed by cameramen and interviewed by local reporters. When they got home, they blogged about their experiences, sent links of newspaper stories to their friends, and stopped to talk to anyone who expressed interest in their new wheels.

Jeff Heeren of Nashville, Tenn., became the sixth Nissan Leaf owner on Dec. 22. Nissan's advertising agency, Chiat Day, followed Heeren and his family around as they picked up their silver-colored Leaf, and have posted a video on the Leaf's Facebook page. Not surprisingly, Heeren is a fan. "What's amazed me the most in driving it is that it's just a car, like any other car," he said.

Nissan Leaf drivers to be ranked for efficient driving via telematics system. Yes, like a video-game

Driving or video-gaming? Both. From Edmunds Inside Line: The 2011 Nissan Leaf is already a techno-geek's dream, but the new electric car's telematics system offers something most probably didn't expect: competitive rankings for energy use.

Nissan's Carwings system records and displays daily, monthly and annual data for distance traveled, electricity consumption and average miles per kilowatt-hour (kWh), among other figures. Best of all, it shows drivers how they stack up against other Leaf owners — and awards a virtual trophy to the top scorer. Check this image below originaly posted on MyNissanLeaf:
