Unfortunately Lamborghini was in dire financial circumstances at the time, which meant that the project suffered frequent delays and in the end the whole project had to be moved to the BMW motorsport department in Baur, Germany. However, by the time the M1 was ready to be launched in 1978, two years after its initial conception, Group 5 racing rules had changed meaning that the M1 was no longer practical.In an effort to save the project from total disaster the head of BMW motorsport devised a one make race series called the Procar BMW M1 Championship. The series was very successful as it ran as a support race for the Formula 1 world championship, and pitted many past and present F1 stars, including Ayrton Senna, Nelson Piquet and Nikki Lauda, against each other in identical machinery.

The BMW M1 model is the first M-Series model produced by BMW, during the period 1978 to 1981. The model is a two door coupe sports car designed with the rear mid-engine layout and it is offered in rear wheel drive. The BMW M1 model is designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro.

Initially the BMW motorsport department turned to Lamborghini to use their experience to help design and build their new racer. The result was a sleek, low slung, mid engine supercar with body work designed by Ital Design and a 3.5 litre engine that could be turbocharged to produce 850 bhp in Group 5 racing spec.

The BMW M1 model is a sports car manufactured by German automobile producer, BMW. This model was produced as a joint venture between Lamborghini and BMW and it is the only mid-engined model to be mass produced by BMW. The initial model was powered by a 3.5 liter twin-cam M88 6-cylinder gasoline engine with mechanical fuel injection. The same model was also used in the BMW 745i version. The engine had four valves per cylinder, and six separate throttle butterflies. The powerful engine produced power up to 204 kilo watts and the model has the capacity to achieve top speed of 260 kilo meters per hour. The turbocharged versions of M1 produced up to 634 kilo watts of power.

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Bayerische Motoren Werke atau lebih dikenal dengan BMW, menambah lagi 3 model yang dipasarkannya di Indonesia, yaitu kupe 335i dan 320i dan 135i.

“Seri 3 kupe ditujukan untuk pribadi yang ingin tampil beda,” kata Ramesh Divyanathan, Presiden Direktur PT BMW Indonesia ketika meluncurkan mobil ini  di Grand Hotel Indonesia Kempiski. Karena itu pula, mesin yang dicangkokkan untuk mengenjot mobil ini 3.000cc, 6-silinder, turbocharger ganda dan injeksi langsung (untuk 335i dan 135i). Mesin ini sama dengan yang digunakan 535i. Sedangkan untuk 320i, menggunakan mesin 4 silinder, 2.000 cc .

320i diharapkan bisa menjangkau konsumen lebih bawah lagi, utamanya mereka yang tidak terlalu pusing dengan tenaga namun tetap tampil gaya. Karena itulah, dari ketiga kupe baru ini, 320i harganya terendah. Lengkapnya, 335i dijual dengan Rp 1.088 juta, 135i Rp808 juta dan 320i Rp778 juta (semuanya off-road) di Jakarta.

Khusus untuk 335i dan 135i, setirnya dibalut kulit, dilengkapi  tombol-tombol multifungsi plus paddle shift untuk  mengoperasikan gigi secara manual. Transmisi yang digunakan, otomatis 7-percepatan dengan kopling  ganda. 

Dengan paddle shift, kemampuan akselerasi bisa dipercepat (tidak perlu menunggu pedal gas diinjak terus untuk pindah gigi). Konsumsi bahan bakar juga menjadi diirit karena mobil bisa meluncur pada sedang dan putaran rendan karena gigi bisa dipindahkan posisi lebih tinggi.

Kelengkapan lain adalah jok berdesain sport yang dapat disetel dengan hanya menekan tombol (elektrik),  baik untuk pengemudi maupun penumpang.  Khusus 335i, sistem audionya menggunakan Harman Kardon (surround) dengan 13 speaker dan amplifier 420W.

Perlengkapan lainnya,  iDrive generasi terakhir, layar monitor LCD 8 inci  yang bisa difungsikan sebagai TV, memainkan DVD atau dihubungkan dengan  USB dan bluetooth. Fitur lain, adaptive headlight, comfort access system dan electric glass roof.

Juga ada  hill start assistant  (khusus 335i dan 135i) yang memudahkan pengemudi bekerja bila berhenti di tanjakan. Dengan fitur tersebut, bila hendak jalan, pengemudi tidak perlu buru-buru menekan pedal gas untuk mencegah mobil mundur. Tepatnya, mobil dicegah mundur!

320i dilengkapi  transmisi otomatis enam kecepatan  Steptronic. Juga  ada iDrive, monitor 8 inci dengan fungsi TV dan DVD di dashboard, koneksi USB, bluetooth dan audio dengan amplifier 180 Watt dan 8 speaker.

Perlengkapan keamanan yang disertakan untuk ketiga kupe ini kantung udara buat  pengemudi dan penumpang depan,  active headrest, dynamic braking lights, Dynamic Stability Control dengan ABS, Cornering Brake Control, Dynamic Traction Control dan Run Flat Tires.

It's finally here; BMW has unveiled its long-rumored four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine which makes its world premiere on the X1 xDrive28. The four-banger essentially replaces the firm's classic naturally aspirated 3.0-liter straight-six and will soon find its way in a variety of models. Even though the Bavarian automaker is keeping its cards close to its chest, expect to see the new unit, codenamed N20, on the 1-Series, X3, 3-Series, Z4 roadster and 5-Series models.

The X1 body is 4.45 metres (175.2") long, which is significantly longer than the other 1 Series models (4.24 metre / 166.9'' for the 3- and 5- door bodies, or 4.36 metre / 171.7'' in the 1 Series coupe and convertible). Quite logically, it remains shorter than the 4.57 metres 1.79.9'' of the larger X3 brother.

In wheelbase terms, the X1 enjoys a rather long dimension for the compact segment (2.76 metres /108.7''). It is equal to the 3 Series wheelbase (the X1 is a variation of the 3 Series platform), significantly longer than the wheelbase of the 1 Series models (2.66 metres / 104.7'') and slightly shorter than the 2.79 metres /110'' wheelbase of the X3 (More about the main exterior and interior dimensions of the new BMW X1).

Khusus untuk 535i, BMW memperkenalkan pertama kalinya mesin 3.0 liter dengan teknologi turbocharger dan twinpower dengan High Precision Direct Injection. Sedan sport ini menggunakan transmisi 8-speed Steptronic yang bisa diatur lewat lingkar kemudinya. Penerapan teknologi tersebut mampu meningkatkan kenyamanan dan perpindahan gigi yang lebih cepat serta halus.

Dengan teknologi ini pula mesin 2.979 cc-nya mampu menghasilkan tenaga sebesar 306 hp pada 5.800 rpm dengan torsi puncak 400 Nm di 1.200 rpm. “Kekuatan Seri 5 BMW sejak dulu terkenal pada sisi mesin, sasis, dan transmisinya, kini lewat generasi terbarunya kami tambahkan pula ruang kabin belakang yang lega,” papar Presiden Direktur BMW Indonesia Ramesh Divyanathan, dalam sambutannya di Plasa Senayan, Jakarta, Kamis (17/6/2010).

Tak kalah dengan mobil terbaru BMW 535i, BMW 528i dan 523i Executive juga menghadirkan fitur hiburan kualitas nomor satu di bagian ruang kabin belakang. Misalnya saja dua monitor 8 inci yang menemani monitor depan 10,2 inci. Lewan sistem hiburan ini bisa tertampil film DVD dan siaran TV dengan warna maksimal serta dentuman suara lewat sistem Hifi.

Untuk urusan dapur pacu, 528i dan 523i dibekali mesin Vanos Valvetronic yang masing-masing berkapasitas 2.996 cc serta 2.497 cc. 528i sanggup menghasilkan tenaga sebesar 258 hp pada 6.600 rpm dengan torsi 310 Nm di 2.600 rpm. Sedangkan 523i mampu menyemburkan daya sebesar 204 hp pada 6.300 rpm dengan torsi puncak mencapai 250 Nm di putaran 2.750 rpm.
