The all-wheel drive technology used on the A1 prototype is very similar to that found in A3 and TT models. At the heart of the system is an electronically controlled, hydraulically actuated multi-plate clutch located in front of the rear axle. Under normal driving conditions, the clutch sends most of the engine’s power to the front wheels. If the front axle starts losing traction, the clutch can instantly transfer torque to the rear axle by forcing the plate packages together.

The German firm stated that the one-off development car is one of the stars of the ‘Fascination of quattro’ event taking place in Montreal to celebrate the past, present and future of the legendary four-wheel-drive system, which reached its 30th anniversary in 2010.

JERMAN- Setelah beberapa lama membiarkan rumor yang beredar terkait peluncuran hatchback terbaru pengganti Audi A3 terus menjadi bahan pembicaraan, kini rumor tersebut telah menjadi kenyataan.

Pasalnya, seperti dilansir dari Autoexpress, Senin (22/11/2010), Audi dikabarkan telah secara resmi merilis model hatchback terbaru, yang bernama RS3 Sportback. Mobil ini menurut rencana akan segera tersedia di dealer pada awal tahun 2011.

Mobil baru keluaran produsen asal Jerman tersebut menggunakan mesin turbocharged berkapasitas 2.500 cc lima silinder, yang dipinjam dari Audi TT RS, sehingga mampu mengembangkan tenaga sebesar 340 hp dan torsi 450 Nm.

Hebatnya, tenaga tersebut dapat langsung tersembur pada saat jarum indikator putaran mesin berada di posisi 1.600 rpm

Saingan dari BMW seri 1 coupe ini dikendalikan oleh transmisi S Tronic tujuh kecepatan, tenaga yang dihasilkan oleh mesin tersebut lantas dapat mendorong mobil dengan bantuan dari system all-wheel drive quattro permanent.

Dengan torsi dan tenaga sebesar itu, RS3 mampu mencapai kecepatan tertinggi yang dibatasi secara elektronik hingga 250 km/jam.  Tidak hanya itu, mobil tersebut mampu melakukan sprint dari nol hingga 100 km/jam hanya dalam waktu 4,6 detik. Audi mengklaim, kemampuan sprint tersebut setara dengan supercar R8 bermesin Audi V8.

Untuk menggimbangi tenaga yang telah meningkat, mobil tersebut telah menerima beberapa modifikasi untuk komponen lain juga.

Seperti menggunakan konstruksi strut McPherson untuk suspensi depan, selain itu per dan peredam kejut didesain ulang dan menggunakan rem berventilasi. RS3 baru akan tersedia dalam lima pilihan warna eksterior, dan menggunakan roda aluminium berukuran 19 inci serta dilengkapi dengan ban berukuran 235/35 di depan dan 225 / 35 di belakang.

mobil tersebut juga dilengkapi dengan tombol Sport sebagai perlengkapan standar, sensor parkir dibagian belakang, kontrol iklim, dan lampu depan xenon ditambah dengan lampu LED daytime running. Pada bagian interior, logo RS3 menghiasi jok sport yang dibalut kulit Nappa, serta menggunakan roda kemudi berdesain racing yang juga dibalut bahan kulit.

Audi mengtakan, RS3 ini akan dapat segera dipesan mulai pertengahan Desember dengan harga sekitar USD68,220 atau sekira Rp609 juta. (uky)

AUDI AKAN BUAT MOBIL SPORT TERBARU

JERMAN- Perusahaan pembuat mobil asal Jerman, Audi nampaknya sedang giat untuk membuat produk-produk terbaru.
 
Selain berencana untuk mobil hactback terbaru, saat ini menurut sumber Carmagazine, Selasa (2/11/2010) Audi akan membuat mobil sport dengan kapasitas dua tempat duduk pada 2014 mendatang.
 
Mobil yang rencananya akan bersaing dengan Lotus tersebut akan menggunakan nama R5. Mobil sport tersebut akan menggunakan Mimo (yang dalam bahasa Jerman Mittelmotor atau mesin dengan kapasitas menengah) yang merupakan mobil sport masa depan dari Porsche dan Volkswagen (VW).
 
Audi R5 kemungkinan akan menggunakan mesin berkapasitas 2.500 cc Turbo yang sama dengan yang digunakan oleh Audi TT RS.
 
Namun Audi juga akan menyiapkan tipe terkecil bermesin 2.000 cc TSI, sehingga lebih ramah lingkungan.
 
Menurut sumber Carmagazine, Audi R5 memiliki panjang sekitar 3,9 meter. Hal itu bertujuan agar R5 memiliki bobot yang ringan, serta untuk meningkatkan efisiensi bahan bakar.
 
Rencananya, mobil itu diproduksi di pabrik Osnabruck, Austria. Kemungkinan besar selain diproduksi dalam wujud coupe juga dalam bentuk convertible.
 
Audi berharap, dengan kehadiran mobil tersebut dapat bersaing dengan Porsche dan Aston Martin. Namun tidak dijelaskan lebih lanjut mengenai harga dari R5.

Audi investe 11.600 milhões de euros em carros eléctricos até 2015

A Audi vai investir 11.600 milhões de euros nos próximos cinco anos e do total deste investimento, 9.500 milhões, ou seja, cerca de 80%, destinam-se ao desenvolvimento de novos produtos e tecnologias, tais como sistemas híbridos e eléctricos.
De acordo com a publicação espanhola CincoDias, citada pelo site do Mobi.e, este é “um valor recorde na história da fabricante automóvel alemã”. “Este investimento tem como base um crescimento sustentável e rentável, com o objectivo de situar a empresa como líder no mercado automóvel premium”, afirmou o director financeiro da Audi, Axel Strotbeck. A fabricante germânica anunciou entretanto que prevê lançar o seu primeiro carro eléctrico, o Audi R8 e-tron, no final de 2012.
